oday my head is swimming with thoughts, where should I start?
Lets go back in time to the beginning of the War in Iraq (more accurately before the war in Iraq, where it all started.) Today in my usual morning reading and knowledge dump. I learned about the Downing Street Papers (http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/downloads/alleight.pdf). This document in it's entirety consists of 8 documents written by several British Officials and was initially deemed to be secret in classification. These documents outline the strategy's of the US and the invasion on Iraq. The most interesting part about all of these documents is that they where written 1 year before we ever entered Iraq. In case you may have forgotten this was during the time that the US was up in arms over the 9/11 incidents and knee deep in al-Qaeda (well I'll keep it clean). But yet unknown to the people of the country our leaders had another agenda which would lead us into a war that would last over 3 years.
The Downing Street papers speak of what it would take in order to get support for the US to invade Iraq. The plans where laid out and discussed with the UK because the US needed their help in order to stage the attacks. We needed Britain's bases in Diego Garcia and in Cyprus in order to have our troops in a position where we could easily deploy to Iraq. In the document it also speaks of how the US could get support by having the UN conduct inspections which they knew Saddam would protest and if he did not allow this to take place they could then use this as a means for drumming up the support that they needed. The Document goes on in detail and speaks of the way that intel was shaped around the needs of the US in order to reach the proper outcome.
Now I am not going to sit here and go into the documents verbatim, I just wanted to open the door. It is the lack of knowledge that allows us to make hasty or even the wrong decision's in life so as a matter of public service I hope that all that read this will feel free to use this forum in order to get information, that we all may not know about, out into the open. And please feel free to share with friends and relatives hopefully we can bring about enough awareness about the things that are going on around us everyday to exact change.
